Why Senator Hagel Can Do Well in Michigan in the Primary

Compared with Senators McCain and Giuliani and Governor Romney, Hagel is a close centrist, but he has the advantage based on 2 main issues:
1) Abortion - Michigan has the biggest Right to Life PAC in America.
2) Sexual orientation - Michigan banned gay marriage by a decent margin in 2000.

Compared with Senator Brownback, he is nearly identical on most political issues; however, Senator Hagel has a stronger stance on absolute gun control, and with hunting/gun rights a big issue in Michigan (especially after the highly debated 2006 Proposal 3), gun control could play a major roll in deciding who Michigan nominates.
